Mobile Learning

Learning no longer happens only at a desk, the model of static learning environments - the IT suite, has slowly shifted to more mobile surroundings. This move was spearheaded by government directives to provide “Anytime, Anywhere” learning. The IT suite still has its’ place, for power hungry, memory intensive applications, where using an iMac and the included iLife suite of digital media applications, teachers and students can easily create media-rich content for iPads & the iPod Touch, based on their own classroom curriculum. However, the suite cannot fulfill the many & varied roles met by the more flexible, mobile devices and the laptop has become the product of choice in education, reflecting the business sector. With the improvements in WiFi technologies, laptops make providing IT easier & faster by allowing the ‘IT suite’ to be moved to the pupils rather than the other way around. Apple makes it easy for teachers and their pupils to collaborate, no matter where everyone is working.

HandHeld Learning

iPad, the latest, innovative, handheld device from Apple. Once again Apple have provided an ingenious product which defines it’s own space and is ideally suited to the education environment. The iPad taps into and indeed was the catalyst for, the massive explosion of Apps that now dominates software provision. There are more than 400,000 Apps available, many of which are free. It is the proliferation of these small pieces of software that turn an iPad into an essential education tool, not just for consuming information but also for creating.
With WiFi (or 3G) connectivity iPads utilise existing infrastructures and come closest to providing ‘AnyTime, Anywhere’ learning. With their small size and ‘instant on’ technology, technical issues are minimised and learning is maximised.

iPod, the world's most popular media player, is also a powerful education tool that puts ‘AnyTime, Anywhere’ learning directly into students' hands. With the iPod Touch, students can have access to the internet and core curriculum content in a mobile, media-rich style that lets them learn as they live - on the go.

Enhanced Learning

Innovative schools across the country are using iPads & the iPod Touch to deliver curriculum to individual learners in new and exciting ways. Whether its enabling students to review background information outside of class, providing them with remedial practice of challenging concepts, or giving them access to audiobooks and interactive lessons for improving language acquisition. Apple’s handheld devices enhance teaching and learning, with these devices, students can access the Internet, take notes, keep track of their calendars, communicate via email and access free educational content around the clock with iTunes U — a special section of the iTunes Store that’s just for education. iTunes U offers a wealth of free educational content, including audiobooks, videos, lessons, podcasts, and professional development resources.
