Course Description
Adobe Photoshop CS4 is a one day course covering digital image concepts and the tools to enable you edit, retouch, and manipulate pixel based images and graphics.
The course content to the right is that which will be covered. Attendees are encouraged to ask specific questions, taking the course into more or less detail on any of these topics plus others, where required.

Who should attend?
Adobe Photoshop CS4 is aimed at anyone who has begun using Photoshop and wishes to learn more about how to edit or manipulate images and graphics either professionally or at home using Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Prerequisites
Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attending this course:
•Basic Mac OS X knowledge A prior knowledge of Desktop •Basic knowledge of Photoshop

Introduction
The Photoshop Interface, navigation, tools, palettes etc; Understanding pixels, resolution; Image acquisition, scanner, digital cameras, stock photos and other sources.

Techniques
Colour modes, RGB, CMYK and Greyscale; Cropping; Sizing and saving images; Selection Techniques; Quickmask; Using Layer Composits; Layer masks, from selections, gradients etc, vector masks; Gradients; Multiple undo and the History palette.

Retouching and adjustments
The Clone Tool; The healing brushes and Patch Tool; Correcting exposure; Blur and Sharpen; Red-eye correction; Retouching using masks and filters; Selective adjustments; Levels and Curves; Working with Histograms and Colour Samples.

Type
Type on paths; Masking with Type; Advanced techniques, smart objects; Using type layers; Formatting text; Type warp; Applying filters to text.

Compositing
Creating masks and cutouts; Using layers; Transparency; Linking layers; Transformations, inc free transform; Shape layers; Fill layers.

Image correction
Adjustment options, levels, curves, hue/saturation, brightness/contrast; Adjustment layers.

Effects
Layer styles, shadows, glows, bevels etc; Using filters, Filter Gallery.

CS4 Features
Adjustments panel; Masks panel; Content-aware scaling.

Workflow
Importing and exporting images, common file formats and their differences; Integration with other applications e.g. Illustrator, Quark, InDesign and Flash; Web graphics, Save for Web, Choosing a file format, Optimisation and compression; Printing, Recognising non-printable colours, Converting images to CMYK.
